Sad news, Testing updated, Contact updated, 2 additional links in links page - 22/1/10Sad News : Apart from a family member passing away near christmas last year, I also managed to loose an entire partition this year, before getting a chance to back it up.Admiteddly the Update 1 of OS4.1 was worth it in the end thus far. On this very partition I have lost a couple of ongoing projects we were doing for the community. This now means that we will need to start from scratch in some fields. Thankfully the programming field is safe, so we still have all original code, which will still be worked on.

So for an overview to the community, "Uno Kraepe" game has been lost, but not the code to it. This means we will attempt to carry on, and remake things anew, but with a twist, by perhaps recreating the genre, instead of how it was going to be. So this has led to a change. Also concepts of other genres have been lost now.

In future, I think atleast I myself, have learnt a valuable lesson, Backup, Backup, and wait, Backup, even if you know your OS wont screw up hard drive in daily use, other things can go wrong, such as Hard drive failure, Updates, etc, etc. I am deeply sorry to the community for this failure of not backing up what I had at the time.

Testing still being done naturally, but again, have lost many downloaded content recently. Contact page has been updated, and any users wishing to have their work displayed in the monthly page, with text to accomodate programs used, techniques, styles, etc, can now do so if they please. Hardware page updated.

Monthly Page IV (4) Shall be up shortly, at the end of this month, due to the last monthly page almost hitting the end of the month, I figured we may as well follow suit. It will include a whole page of the StarCraft Porting, and may also include a possible preview of how our future website may look like.

TESTING

In recent times I have been trying to place more tested software onto our testing page.

STARCRAFT PORT

I thought I would mention that I myself, inclusive with my colleague, have been able to test run and play a little starcraft. But there are many things that need to be looked at still, unfortunately, our coder is and has been trying to make it easy for all amiga os4.x users to be able to install from the blizzard original CD, onto their amigas, and as this is not yet the case, the community will need to wait further. there were also various things missing in the beta version here, and this is yet another reason for not yet placing the current progress into our downloads section. I apologise in advance for the long time it is taking here, but we are getting closer.

3-05-09

LISTINGS

I apologise in advance, many of you may have noticed that I missed a week, so, to make up for it (or to try to) I have done more testing than usual during the last few days, when I have found the time. Enjoy.

STARCRAFT UPDATE

For those of you that dont read Monthly Page Issues "StarCraft update. :-) All was going well last month when I discovered that the code wasn't working as expected because it assumed the memory is was reading was all backwards in x86 PC style. No so on the AmigaOS4 platform, where we have a "normal" computer that reads memory from left to right, like we do. (English readers and thinkers.) Makes me wonder, were those Intel engineers Arabs from the middle east? :-D Okay so I started to sort that out. And wrote a special routine to read in the memory backwards. Boy it was a lot of work! It became hard when I also needed to account for both 16-bit and 32-bit words that were read in from disk and needed converting. The main program does take this into account, but it has a support library to extract archives that doesn't, and this is where the problem lies. Had it been more consistent and accounted for all memory it looked at this would have been solved earlier and would be working now.
As it stands the "startool" doing the conversion starts to work as planned, and even now finds the "missing" statdat.mpq that eluded us before. But, that's where it ends. It extracts it out and then on the next move it's... Boom! Crash! Opera. Not the part of last century we were looking for. I think there is still some memory somewhere that's lying around backwards and needs to suffer some "reverses" so we can go forward. If you know what I mean. ;-) In the meantime hopefully I can find out where in particular this is happening. And then by next month I will have something to show for all this annoying work I've had to put into it. And you thought ports would be easy. Ha! Thanks for bearing with us. And I'll see you next month. For now, it's happy bugging. Easter time and those bugs are hiding in holes again. :-)"

19-04-09
Placed Monthly Page issue 3 onto site Listings Updated Monthly Page ofcourse also updated For the latest starport information, look at monthly page issue 3. Interview with Boing Attitude

13-04-09
Slight update, it seems the progress is taking longer than expected for the starcraft port. The more we dig into it, the more we find.
Research continues. Practicing In cinema4D, via tha manual.

22-03-09
We are getting somewhere now with the port. We know what it is doing, and we know how to fix it. Note : I have since made some headway in the code. And found that install tool looks for headers in the install file (exe on CD) in x86 order. This is rather strange, as it looks like a PC programmer can't directly search for a four character string in memory, but must reverse it. So for instance ILBM must become MBLI. Huh? How did they survive?! Most likely the programmer was lazy with regard to non-PC CPUs and coded it directly for a PC. Listings updated, as per usual, weekly. Some interviews planned. Doing some practice in various fields, as well as trying to keep up with the research.
